Our advice

How we write these articles.

The articles in our advice library come from the Euroheat team in Perth: the explanations, the numbers and the stories are ours, taken from the systems we've designed and installed since 1992, from Phil Pacak's videos, and from the questions people ask us every winter. Here's where the facts come from, and what the numbers mean.

Who writes them

The articles are written by the Euroheat engineering team. A lot of the explaining comes from Phil Pacak, our Efficiency Engineer, who has recorded about 90 videos answering the questions people bring to us. Where an article uses Phil's own words, it says so, and where it links one of his videos you can hear it from him directly.

We write for one person at a time: someone planning a new home, or living in a cold one, who wants a straight answer before spending serious money. If something isn't worth it, we say so.

Where the numbers come from

Running costs are modelled estimates, never promises. Our figures are worked out for a typical Perth home on an air-source heat pump at Synergy's regulated home rate (33.26 cents a kilowatt-hour from July 2026), and we review them each year when the tariff changes. Your own bill will depend on your house, your thermostat and next year's prices. The Running Cost Calculator shows the same model for your floor area.

We don't publish build prices in articles. Every house prices differently, and a number on a web page anchors a decision it shouldn't. A couple of general guides appear where they help (the cost of drilling for geothermal, a radiator per panel), and they say plainly that they're general figures. Your own price, in writing, comes from the 5-minute quote: your options within 3 working days, each with its price and a modelled running cost.

Outside facts link to their source. Weather from the Bureau of Meteorology, tariffs from the WA Government, building rules from the people who write them, each with the date we read it.

The pictures

The sketches in the articles are there to explain one idea each, the way we'd draw it on a scrap of paper at your kitchen table. They're illustrations, not pictures of a real job or a real house. Any figure in one is a modelled estimate, and the caption says so.

The stories

When an article tells a story from a real job, it's told as it happened, with no owner's name and nothing that would identify the house.

Keeping them up to date

We update an article when a number it relies on changes, when a rule changes, or when we find a clearer way to explain something. The date under each title is its last update.
